Paris Modern — Classical Design and European Influence Reimagined

Winner: BILDCR Best New Home 2024

Some homes follow trends.
And then there are homes built on principle.

Paris Modern is rooted in classical architecture and European restraint, executed with contemporary clarity. It’s refined, transitional, and deeply intentional.

Brought to life by Dream Ridge Homes in collaboration with interior design firm In House Design Group, this residence reflects a disciplined commitment to craftsmanship, proportion, and timeless detail.

As designer Al McDowell explains, “I wanted to design a refined, transitional home that reflected their personal style.”
That vision is felt from the first step inside.

Exterior Architecture — Built on Classical Strength

From the street, the home presents a confident yet measured façade — structured, composed, and unmistakably European in spirit.

Crafted by Dream Ridge Homes, the exterior balances permanence with modern edge:

  • Red brick exterior grounded in tradition

  • Matte black detailing for contrast and definition

  • Oversized grid windows referencing European urban architecture

  • Subtle arched entry detailing

  • Structured landscaping and elevated presence

The architectural massing feels intentional and enduring. It doesn’t chase attention — it commands it quietly.

The strength of the exterior sets the tone for what unfolds within.

Interior Design — Refined, Transitional, Intentionally Layered

Inside, In House Design Group shapes a modern Parisian aesthetic — calm, tailored, and quietly luxurious.

Walls in soft white create a serene backdrop that enhances the home’s clean architectural lines. The overall palette is “timeless and beautiful, but practical for everyday family life.”

Texture is layered with restraint — velvet, lacquered brass, wood, plaster, mohair, silk, and marble — building warmth without heaviness.

And at the core of the design philosophy:

“Whether it’s a light fixture, metal-framed door or spectacular piece of furniture, there’s an element that makes each room feel special.”

That principle guides every decision.

The Staircase — Sculptural Simplicity

The staircase is a defining architectural moment.

“I love the simple elegance of the staircase,” says Al. “The white closed stringer and curved feature on that first step up keep it looking interesting.”

The curved plaster detail softens the home’s linear geometry — sculptural, but never overstated.

It’s a detail that demonstrates the seamless collaboration between builder and design team — structure and artistry working together.

Chef’s Kitchen — Classical Materiality, Modern Precision

The kitchen blends European material richness with contemporary functionality.

Designed by In House Design Group and executed with precision by Dream Ridge Homes, it features:

  • Fluted island detailing

  • Dramatic marble slab backsplash

  • Brass fixtures and pot filler

  • Integrated appliances

  • Open shelving with brass rails

  • Statement chandelier positioned like an art piece

The heavily veined Calacatta Monet backsplash introduces movement and drama without overwhelming the space.

The chandelier above the island is described as “truly the jewel of the home.” It anchors the room with sculptural elegance.

A thoughtfully designed galley-style servery ensures entertaining feels effortless — reinforcing that this is a home meant to be lived in, not just admired.

Living & Dining — Parisian Warmth, Modern Restraint

Light-filtering drapery and pale wood tones create softness in the dining area. The spaces flow seamlessly, reflecting the homeowners’ love of hosting.

Furniture selections lean sculptural — boxy kitchen chairs nod to Parisian design, while the family room’s seating balances comfort with form.

The curved plaster mantel was intentionally restrained:

“I wanted it to be sculptural but toned down.”

That restraint is what elevates the space. Nothing competes. Everything complements.

Primary Suite — Spa-Like European Calm

In the ensuite, the mood shifts toward quiet luxury.

To create a spa-like atmosphere, limestone was used on the floors and extended halfway up the walls — grounding the space in natural texture.

The result is serene, tactile, and architectural.

Every material transition feels deliberate. Every finish is cohesive. The discipline behind the execution is unmistakable — a testament to both the design vision of In House Design Group and the craftsmanship of Dream Ridge Homes.

The Power of Understatement

This home was not rushed. It was considered.

For Al, the beauty lies in subtlety: “It’s really the understated elements that make this house so beautiful.”

And that is the defining characteristic of Paris Modern.

Not loud.
Not trend-driven.
Not ornamental for its own sake.

Instead, it is classical proportion, European influence, sculptural detailing, and layered texture — brought together through thoughtful collaboration between Dream Ridge Homes and In House Design Group.

A home built with intention. Designed with discipline and destined to feel timeless.
